What is the Affiliation of Fire Door Inspectors?
The AFDI is a not-for-profit organisation that exists to promote best practices amongst professional Fire Door Inspectors.
Our goal is to assist both fire door inspectors in providing the best possible service for their clients, and those responsible for fire safety in buildings gaining access to the best people in the fire door inspection sector.

How can AFDI help building operators?
Fire safety law in the UK requires building operators to carry out a suitable and sufficient Fire Risk Assessment.
Part of that assessment concerns fire-resisting doors and escape doors.
Article 17 of the Fire Safety Order mandates that fire safety equipment and devices are subject to a suitable maintenance regime and kept in an efficient state and in good working order. This includes fire doors and escape doors.
As a Responsible Person, it is critical that you get the correct advice from your fire door inspector to help you meet your legal and social obligations whilst enabling you to target your resources to get the best in fire door safety without unnecessary expense.
That’s why we are here!
How can AFDI help fire door inspectors?
We are here to assist competent fire door inspectors in becoming even more competent.
That’s important because clients that are responsible for fire safety in their buildings often find themselves in an onerous position.
What they don’t need is an inspector to turn up and inspect all the doors that have blue circular signs.
They need inspectors that will take the time to help them identify the doors most critical to meet the building’s fire strategy.
They need inspectors that can help them to find permanent solutions to the challenges they face with fire door compliance.
Inspectors that work to ensure every penny spent goes towards an improvement in safety for the people that use the buildings.
If you strive to be that inspector then AFDI is for you!
