BECOME A FULL OR ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE AFDI

Membership Information

The AFDI exists to promote best practices amongst its members (Fire Door Inspectors). We are here to help our members to provide the best possible service to their clients and equally to help Responsible Persons access the best people in the fire door inspection sector.

It is critically important to get the right advice from your fire door inspector to help you meet your legal and social obligations. Not only that, but a good inspector will help you target your resources to get the very best in fire safety without unnecessary expense.

That is why we are here.

Our Goals

Help competent fire door inspectors become even more competent.

Help those responsible for fire safety in their buildings to access inspectors that help to ensure that every penny spent goes towards tangible improvements in the overall fire safety of their building.

Important Membership Information

Full or Associate Membership of AFDI is limited to individuals without any connections or links to companies offering the remediation or installation of fire doors. All applicants are required to confirm on their application that they are an independent entity in this respect.
‘Suitable qualification in fire door inspection’

A suitable qualification is one in which the course involves theory, practical and presentational sections. An inspector must obviously have the background knowledge to be able to undertake a survey with confidence, but it is also critical that the results of the inspection are presented in such a manner to be of maximum benefit to the client. It is unlikely that any ‘one-day’ courses will satisfy these requirements.

We understand that some longstanding and experienced inspectors may not have submitted themselves to some of the more comprehensive courses; therefore, various qualifications may be considered by the AFDI membership panel.

Please contact us if you would like to discuss the matter of qualifications combined with experience.

AFFILIATE MEMBERSHIP OF THE AFDI

Membership Information

The AFDI recognise that there are lots of suppliers of fire-related goods and services who are committed to providing the very best service possible and view full compliance as the minimum standard.

Several such companies have approached us and requested a suitable membership level as a means of demonstrating this commitment.
We are therefore delighted to introduce the new Affiliate Member, open to anyone providing fire-related goods or services other than inspection of fire doors.

We would, of course, always recommend that clients carry out due diligence on the suitability of any provider, and membership of a Third Party Certification scheme could be considered an influencing factor, though we also recognise this in itself is no guarantee of compliance.

WHAT OUR MEMBERS SAY

It’s reassuring to know that other members of the AFDI are always on hand to offer advice and support when needed. Understanding that whilst one cannot know everything about fire doors – but one of the other members may be able to offer constructive advice is of significant benefit

– AFDI MEMBER

It’s a pleasure to be part of a group of industry professionals who are determined to raise the bar with regard to the service given to clients and help to ensure their money is well spent. “90% of the doors inspected failed” without constructive observations is of very little worth to the client.
